The current specialty of oral and maxillofacial surgery provides services in the following areas:

  • Cosmetic (aesthetic) facial surgery
  • Dentoalveolar surgery
  • Diagnosis and management of pathological conditions
  • Oral and craniomaxillary implant surgery

Today’s education and training of the maxillofacial surgeons includes a college degree, four years of dental school and a in-hospital residence in oral and maxillofacial surgery. Generally, most surgeons also complete either a second residency or a fellowship training program.
