Dental Implants

Patients who will be undergoing implant placement need to understand that a dental implant is a foreign body which the human body needs to completely incorporate in to its natural bone. Such process is called osseointegration, and it can fail if close attention is not taken to the postoperative care. Therefore, it is extremely important that patients follow instructions adequately in order to insure the healing progresses along as expected and without any problems.

The postoperative instructions are to assist you in getting over the healing phase of your surgery as comfortable as possible. In order for this to happen, it is imperative that you read the instructions to better prepare for the healing events which will ensue. Although you can expect to have certain things occur, like some bleeding immediately after surgery and possibly some swelling, most implants are extremely well tolerated by most patients. In addition, there are times when bone grafting procedures are placed simultaneously along with implants making the process a little more involved for the individual in terms of their wound care.
